The election of The Car of the Year will be full of suspense and surprises!

« Retour

For the third consecutive year, the Car of the Year will be announced just before the opening of the Press Days at the Geneva International Motor Show. The two institutions with long histories, the Geneva International Motor Show (more than 100 years) and the Car of the Year Committee (more than 50 years) will come together for this important event. This year the competition will be particularly intense and the 7 models on the final list will ensure a very difficult final selection for the jury.

The election of the Car of the Year will take place for the third consecutive year within the framework of the Geneva International Motor Show.  These two world renowned institutions, both famous for presenting the technical evolutions of the automobile world, will come together again to provide more insights into the automobiles of the future.

The Car of the Year Committee, composed of 58 automotive journalists from 22 countries, have already chosen their 7 favourites from the 30 new models launched on the market during the course of 2013 and having sold a minimum of 5,000 units during the year. These are: BMW i3, Citroen C4 Picasso, Mazda 3, Mercedes S-Class, Peugeot 308, Skoda Octavia and Tesla Model S.

The 7 finalists have been selected from the key segments of urban cars, family vehicles and the more luxurious autos, based on the driving pleasure that they provide. The competition will be fierce and the final choice a very difficult one. They all bring a high level of comfort, value for money, and leading edge technology to the market. For example, for the first time there are two electric cars in the final list.

By Mid-February the members of the Jury will have the opportunity to undertake extensive tests of each model at the Automobile Research and Test Centre at Mortefontaine (CERAM France), enabling them to evaluate each model against their criteria of innovation, quality, value for money, and design.

The final vote and the announcement of the winner will take place on March 3, 2014 at the Congress Centre at Palexpo during the opening of the Press Days. The presentation ceremony will take place in the lobby at the Press Centre.  Attendance will be reserved only for journalists accredited by the Motor Show organisers and for exhibitors.  It will be transmitted live on the Motor Show website, www.salon-auto.ch, as well as on the Car of the Year website www.caroftheyear.org. This will be the first announcement made before the opening of the Geneva International Motor show.

Over 10,000 journalists from all over the world will be attending during the Press Days on March 4-5, 2014, which will provide the opportunity for the exhibiting manufacturers to unveil more than one hundred new models and concept cars, to present their latest corporate strategies and development plans for the automobile industry over the course of some 65 press conferences.  The Geneva International Motor Show will open its doors to the public from March 6-16, 2014.
